5 Stock Imagery Trends of 2017
As graphic designers, we know that new and compelling imagery is essential for our work on your projects. Stock imagery helps us find the perfect photos to fit your needs. As an Adobe blog says, “Visual elements,… factor heavily in a winning customer experience”. While scouring the Internet for stock imagery over the years, we’ve noticed that trends emerge from year to year. Here are five stock imagery trends that we’ve seen this year:
Drones have definitely impacted the views and angles of photography the last few years. Before drones, photographers had to cross bridges and climb mountains, but now the sky is really the limit for new angles and perspectives on the world.
As technology takes over more and more of our lives, it also is a main player in the photos that are taken! Stock images of phones, smartwatches, and virtual reality devices will only increase as the tech world continues to grow.
Images of exotic plants, palm trees, and tropical paradises bring relaxed feelings of serenity and vacation, while also bringing natural textures and patterns into the imagery. These images of nature have grown in popularity because they are “authentic and raw and directly oppose the exact, sharp-edged compositions of tech-driven design”.
Simple patterns and textures with a minimalist feel are sophisticated and intricate, but offer a “clean yet bold backdrop to any design”. While the minimalist lifestyle has become an increasingly popular trend, so have more minimalist photos for stock photography.
Bright Colors & Movement
This image actually serves double duty! Images with bright, vivid colors have been increasingly used lately, as well as images showing movement. These types of images show an authenticity because of their candid nature, and are outside of what most people would consider to be stock imagery.
